Glad to see smudge back & I actually prefer this art on number 13 than the original,Now if we could get someone to ghost the art style of the original on bananaman & roger the dodger & maybe ball boy at a push (though i do like it) the beano would be brilliant again,oh & bring back jonah.

Re: Smudge and Number 13 by Alan Ryan
For some reason I thought Danny Diddly O'Donoghue was drawn by Nik Holmes (who drew Clown Wars for the 2011 Dandy). Kind of a huge missed opportunity to bring Fiddle O'Diddle back instead. They could have even had Tom Paterson draw it, given that he drew a few strips for the digital Dandy last year. Not every mini-strip has to be about celebrities! Although Ninja Nuns and Rubbish Robots don't seem to be - this is mostly just guesswork since I only have three issues since the revamp - there might be more, I don't know, sorry to Lew, Nigel and all the hardworking writers and artists on this forum and elsewhere if you feel that I insulted your work, because I certainly didn't mean to! Wow, that was a monster sentence, to quote Dead Homer Society, wasn't it? Chortle!

I am pleased to note that the Beano appears to have ditched most of the celebrities, and they are reduced to one or two mini-strips, plus the pisstake of football commentators and managers in Ball Boy - the Numskulls have been focussing on Beano characters recently. Always worth a look at the real thing rather than your memories!

Rather alarmed to see bad language above. Lets leave that sort of thing to Jonathan Ross.

This is the perfect opportunity to bring back classic beano & dandy characters a different 1 every week, & see their numbskulls.

Edd's back in the next issue. Found out from BeanoMaster, who must be a subscriber.AndyB wrote:I am pleased to note that the Beano appears to have ditched most of the celebrities, and they are reduced to one or two mini-strips, plus the pisstake of football commentators and managers in Ball Boy - the Numskulls have been focussing on Beano characters recently. I know - I'm a subscriber too. Tomorrow's Beano has a sampler for the Diary of Dennis the Menace, and is £2 as usual.

Its interesting that both characters were orginally by John Geering....wonder if Alan Ryan was a fan?
The Beano is so much better now lets hope it stays like this...celebraties now and again are fine...everyweek gets boring very quickly..

Re: Smudge and Number 13 by Alan Ryan
What bothers me is that the focus has moved to old characters - which is great, but we are lacking in full page new characters.
Re: Smudge and Number 13 by Alan Ryan
I agree there Andy. While it is nice to see The Beano bring back some old characters it should also continue to progress and freshen itself up by introducing new characters.
This will never happen again but imagine if Dennis, Roger, Minnie and Bash St hadn't have been introduced in the 50s, the comic wouldn't have the identity it has today and might not even still be going.

The Beano rarely stays still for long these days though, so who knows what will happen later? It's understandable that they'd focus on the core characters, and revive/refresh tried and tested classic ones, but I'm sure there will be new full page characters again at some point.AndyB wrote:What bothers me is that the focus has moved to old characters - which is great, but we are lacking in full page new characters.
There's also the old truism about comics, - that for readers just starting to read The Beano all the characters are new.
