Who were the artist-writers?

Many years ago I read an article on the history of the Dr Who strip in TV Comic. In this the author made a distinction between American and British comics, claiming that British strips were generally written by the artists who drew them. That's not generally so, is it? We may not know the name of the writer, but we can't assume it was the artist just because the writing wasn't credited. But which British artists did write their own strips?

In my interviews with creators of girls comics such as Jinty I have found very few (vanishingly few) artist-writers. Veronica Weir wrote and drew a spooky serial in Jinty. "Girl The World Forgot", but at least some other stories she drew were written by other people. Keith Robson likewise was mostly an artist working with other writers, but he did write a Gypsy Rose story that he drew too. Those are the only two definite examples I know of in the girls comics I've looked at. The norm very definitely was for separate writers and artists as far as I know.

Frank Hampson often worked with scriptwriters like Alan Stranks, but I think he did quite a bit of plotting/writing on his Dan Dare stories. Also, Ron Embleton wrote and drew a lot of his Wulf strips.
